This is OP.
I made it to Homer spit and it was stunning drive regardless smoke and road construction.
But even on Thursday Homer is a ZOO.
100's of RVs, 1000's of cars park everywhere.
Than on 1/4 mile walk on spit tip, we counted about 20 restaurants. All have good number of patrons even before dinner hr.
Will see what that place turn into on Friday night.
If you plan to come here for few days - bring bigger checkbook.
Mosquitos are not a problem here. I still have bites from Washington state.
Than we do have good weather, with 73F today, what I heard is uncommon.
I think you're in the middle of the summer tourist season up there. It was busy in 2016 just around Labor Day, but not like what you're describing. Denali NP was winding down by the time we got there.
IIRC, our daytime temps were comfortable, upper 60s/low 70s and nights got down into the 50s or a bit lower. It rained on and off while we were in Homer. The weather everywhere else was sun and cloud mix.
If you can find East End Road, it will take you out past Kachemak and towards Fritz Creek where the Kilcher Homestead is located. I think they rent cabins on the property, but I think they're pricey? We drove out there for a look see, but there wasn't much of either. :Z
Good luck, and enjoy. :)
