Through Chicago on I94????

We’re planning on leaving WI next Sunday, early morning, June 29th and need to get through Chicago on our way to MI. Should be going through around 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM. Our usual route is I94 through the loop to 80/94 East to Indiana.

We’re pulling a 38ft 5th wheel. What are we going to run into construction wise? Any roads along that route blocked off or down to a single lane?

Any web sites I can access to get up to date road construction information?

Thanks for your help.
  • We always take 294 south to 80 all the way around to michigan.
  • The work on the Kennedy at Ohio is finished. You should have no problem passing through the city early on a Sunday.
  • I would drive around on I-294 with an RV. It's a toll but should be less traffic on Sunday morning which, by the way, is an excellent time to go thru/around the city.
  • I dislike the Chicago area so much... that my personal choice would be North to Hwy 2, across the U.P. and down across 'The Bridge' to lower Michigan. Very little traffic and great scenery.
  • The worst tie ups were this weekend (6/21-22) and last weekend.

6/27-29 - for 55 hours Eastbound Ohio exit (that handles all downtown traffic) will be closed.

    I would sincerely recommend 1-39 to 1-80.

  • Construction on I-94 at Ohio St.

Work is being done 24 hours/day on weekends until the end of June.
  • I90 construction starts just past Rockford, IL. My kid said it added over an hour to his travel time, he lives in Chicago.

I like I90/I39/I80 when going around Chicago. A bit longer but less hassle.
  • I believe major work near downtown on the weekends. I suggest I-294.
  • guy told me theres construction every where , he,s a trucker ,said he dropped down on rt 39 then across to rt 80. I wasn,t there just here say. on a map it looks good.
