Tijuana and Otay Mesa. Ground Zero NOT!

Yesterday I entered the USA at Otay Mesa eight miles east of San Ysidro then re-entered Mexico at San Ysidro.

If a person is looking for drama they will be disappointed.

The only thing different than the HUNDREDS of prior crossings made by me (I spent two years at Tecate crossing 2 or more times per day)

Is some very shiny razor wire stacked on vertical poles.

Big deal.

The wait coming and going was normal length. Did not have to open trunk. Fewer than normal cars in secondary inspection. CPB inspector in booth was polite and had three questions. My friend Pablo has a border crossing card and his car has National Plates.

On the Mexican side absolutely no sign of fence climbers.

If a person is looking for drama may I suggest tuning in a Mexican TV Novella.

Yawn....
  • A better, drier camp and this is the first time I have driven alongside the border wall west towards Playas de Tijuana that I did not encounter groups of people crowding dangerously into the 50 mph boulevard. There have been many injuries over the years on that crowded road. I always had feared it.
  • The "drama" was moved by the Mayor of Tijuana 11 miles away to tent cities away from the border.

That is all over the news.

That is why you do not see the thousands at the border right now.

    Yawn.
