Yes, i think that you would, they are looking to check your truck's rear license with the cameras which they can't if you have a trailer and I think the lower limit is 10,000 lb.
If you are coming from Detroit or Port Huron and heading up the 400 going north there isn't a great saving of time by taking 407 (and it's costly, last time I did a one way trip across it was over $14!). Just come through mid day, not during the morning or afternoon rush hours on the 401.
