Toll Roads, Utah to Iowa

We did the eastern states a couple of months ago - lots of toll roads but all of the ones we went on accepted cash. Are there toll roads that don't accept cash? If there are, what happens when you don't have a pass? Park at the toll booth at take a nap?

Having been through parts of Utah, we haven't seen any toll roads there so far.

Even though no asked, toll roads are a total rip off. They get high per gallon road taxes, probably matching federal money to build the roads, then the expensive tolls and they were some of the crappiest roads we've seen, especially around Chicago. A total rip off - what are they doing with all of the money, they certainly aren't spending it on the roads.

They use sensors and cameras. The Golden Gate Bridge has tolls and no toll collectors. If you don't have a FasTrak device then you can pre pay, post pay or wait for the USPS bill. The bridge counts axles and takes pictures as you pass through at 25 MPH.

NO TOLLS from Utah to Iowa.

There is a toll road that bypasses Denver on the east side, but you shouldn't need to take it. I believe it's E-470.

I70 through Utah - No tolls.

I70 through Colorado, to I76, into Nebraska - No tolls.

I80 through Nebraska, - No tolls.

I80 through Iowa - No tolls.

^^^ Correct. What the 3 above said. There are no toll roads that you will need/want to take.

When coming down out of the mountains on I-70 EB and flattening out, as you approach the I-76 interchange EB, you want to get in the LEFT lanes (2 lane exit). There's big emblems painted on the roadway as you approach the exit for I-76, you'll have plenty of time to get over, but if traffic is heavy, plan ahead and start moving before you get to Exit 267 for Kipling Street.

I see where some places are using e-passes and have done away with toll booths.

If you shared Your Map we might be able to help with your toll issue, but as others have said the only toll might be the Toll Road around Denver, which should not be needed.

Now a few thoughts - Late September is the best time of the Year to be in the Colorado Mountains - Aspen - Hard to Beat - so you might just try to catch a little of that!!!!

Is this just an "A to B" drive?

Some of Utah would also be Nice.

Great - mostly just food for thought as you travel out - so often on an "A to B" trip we forget to smell a Rose or Two along the Way.

Besides the E470 around the east side of Denver, and extensions on the north and south, there are express toll lanes. I25 through town has them. The latest addition is peak period shoulder lane in the mountain part of I70, Empire to Idaho Springs.

If coming down on I70 and the heading NE on 76, this mountain lane is the only one you need to watch out for. Just avoid any 'express' lane!

If you stay on I70 into Kansas, you will join the Kansas Turnpike near Kansas City. That toll stretch was built before the Interstates.
