  • Go the US 26 route. Teton pass is not much shorter and time wise about the same.

US 26 does have one grade of about 7% for 1.5 miles when going West. Double lane road with no sharp curves and a passing lane full distance..

There are a couple transmission shops in Idaho Falls that love Teton pass.
  • I towed a popup (no trailer brakes) over Hwy 22 with a Windstar minivan about 15 years ago, and had no problems. Just a matter of gearing down properly. But I understand that some folks get the willies on roads like that. Anyway, Hwy 26 is a good drive. I wouldn't expect your Suburban to have a struggle on either route.
  • Thank you both ... can also get good advice here when haven't traveled on routes before. Safe Travels ...
  • x2. US 26 is a nice, scenic drive. Some of the road is winding, but not many (if any) sharp/tight turns. Definitely no climbs - fairly level, all things considered. This drive can be spectacular in the fall.
  • Easy. Head south to Jackson and continue south to Alpine Junction, then route 26 to Idaho Falls. No significant grades at all.

Do not take route 22 west from Jackson over the Teton Pass! 10% grades and sharp curves. Been there, done that, never again!
