Towing Over Wolf Creek Pass

I have a Ram 2500, 6.4 Hemi, towing a 38 ft travel trailer that weighs 10000#. I'm well within my towing means. This summer we're taking a Colorado trip from Texas to Canon City, CO, then into Pagosa Springs. From Canon City to Pagosa Springs we'll go over Wolf Creek Pass. Should I be concerned at all? Anyone with a gasser want to chime in?

  • Traveling west bound over Wolf Creek Pass is the easier direction. The west side is longer and steeper than the east side. So you will be climbing the easier side. You will just need to be very careful of your speed, and brakes going down. The fact that there are two run away truck ramps going down the west side should tell you something. There are two lanes going down most of the way so you can stay right and go as slow as you want without worrying about holding anyone up behind. But lots of RVs of all types and sizes travel it both ways regularly.
  • I think you will have better luck with your question in the Roads and Routes forum rather than here. I will move it there. Good luck.:)
