Trans-Canada Highway

Are you talking Washington state or D.C?

Washington State.

I am guessing western WA. Fraser River Canyon is beautiful. Some of the highway has heavy truck traffic.
Great roadside fruit stands. Be cautious about fruit as some is not allowed across border.
Hell's gate across Fraser is great tourist attraction.
Take your time! Use pull outs so as to not impede traffic! Alternitive route is south on CAN 97 to CAN 3, but that misses Fraser River. Has great wine country!

We came into Canada from Washington at Sumas. (Decided to go that way to miss Vancouver traffic plus we were headed to Jasper). We took TC-1 to Hope, BC. No problem, some traffic. We have a 34' 5er. TC-1 handles truck traffic so no low clearance issues. After that we took 5N and are traveling on TC-16 however we have driven TC-1 E and W without issue. Safe travels!

This question is just about killing me..."as you prepare to travel the #1 from Banff to...Washington State"..? what? If you mean...do you need to carry extra fuel? no. Water? no. Six spare tires? no. Quarters for the pay phones? no. Borrow a gun to defend yourself? no. Are there places to stop? yes. Food? yes. Are there other travelers?..safety in numbers, I know...yes. Is it smooth gravel all the way? no..it's paved.

Killing response Gary. You left out diesel, in case this a person who lives in cities where that's hard to find, where as long distance roads have many diesel fuel stations.

Or should we encourage this party to come east, take shorish roads of NS, paved sure, but they twist all over and match the original land routes between settlements (when water transport was easier)?

I guess the snide comments really bother me. The OP was simply asking for some help. If he is new to RVing, has never traveled to Canada, or never been in that area, he was just asking for comments. I wish people would respond more kindly or simply not respond if they don't have any constructive help.

The OP is a senior member so chances are they have some experience. I am sorry if it bothers you...truly..not being snide. But it was worded in such a way as to invite comment. I am not going to defend my response..he asked..I answered. And..if you have been around long enough...the question that some visitors pose is hard to just..accept.

My logic is as follows, I am from California, we have a highway called Pacific Coast Highway, maybe you've heard of it. If even a total stranger asked me a vague basic question about Pacific Coast Highway I would be sure to tell them how it gets far more difficult above San Francisco, narrow , many curves, etc., etc., That's all I was looking for.
