Trans Labrador Highway (Labrador 500 and 510)
We are on third week in Labrador doing the Trans Labrador Highway, Labrador Highways 500 and 510. We just did the boat trip to Nain and back (5 days) and left rig in enclosed yard at the wharf. The weather was great for these five days but it rained two weeks before and then this week.
Have been able to boondock/dry camp/free camp the entire time. Tourist Bureaus in Labrador City and Goose Bay told us where to camp for free and the Town Council in Churchill Falls told us to use either of two parking lots (Harbo4with free 120 V AC hookup - which we did not need). Currently in Mary's Bay and was told to use the parking lot at school or rec center. We take an overnight to Battle Harbor (hotel) tomorrow. The road from Quebec border to Goose Bay is good paved road and the first 50 miles of 510 down the "South Coast" is also paved. There then follows 300+ miles of gravel.; the first 255 miles or so have no fuel stops.
The last two nights we found rest stops by rivers and we noted 10 or more great spots to spend the night. Will put these in a later post if desired.
