Travel Ban in Pennsylvania due to winter storm

TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS: Beginning at midnight on Tuesday night, PennDOT will impose a ban on empty straight trucks, large combination vehicles (tandem trailers and double trailers), tractors hauling empty trailers, trailers pulled by passenger vehicles, motorcycles and recreational vehicles, or RVs, on:

• I-78 from the junction with I-81 to the New Jersey state line.
• I-80 from the junction with I-81 to the New Jersey state line.
• I-81 from the Maryland state line to the New York state line.
• I-84 from the junction with I-81 to the New York state line.
• I-380 from the junction with I-80 to the junction with I-81.

Then, starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, all commercial vehicles will be banned on I-380 and I-84 within Pennsylvania.
  • I’m hoping to get out of NJ before the worst hits tomorrow. Spent an hour on the phone trying to rebook a flight for this evening with no luck. Glad I don’t have an RV to deal with up here in the mess that is coming.
  • While I don't have the exact data. There have been major multi car pile ups on the I-81 corridor in PA. The pile ups have resulted in motorist stranded for days. It has been suggested that this stretch be closed when extreme weather is forecast. This is a major/ital roadway for 18 wheeler's.
Looks like PA has reacted to the suggestions.

So are MD, NY, or NJ imposing any driving bans or is it just PA? Not familiar with snow storm conditions, is this ban reasonable or a knee-jerk reaction?

Some can be called knee jerk reactions, but I believe the bans in my eyes are reasonable.. Those are the vehicle that are prone to being stranded, blown over, etc.. And they create issues removing the snow when stranded...

When they start closing ALL the schools today at noon for tomorrows classes, thats knee jerk,,, but they did
  • I know that NJ has the same bans in place, and can ASSUME that NY may also.. Parts of NY are in the 12”-18” range of heavy, wet snow with 50 mph winds.. It will not cover all of NY, Eastern Long Island is slated for 60+ winds with mostly heavy rain, inland and the Catskills will be hit harder..

As far as MD, I doubt it, according to the locals, the storm will form too far north, Our locals cover DE, and it is much lighter....
