Travel route recommendation

Looking for the best RV route traveling from Rawlins, WY to Flagstaff, AZ. Would like to see the Dinosaur Park and Moab along the way. We have a 350 Ford Diesel Truck, towing a 29' Fifth Wheel.

  • TexasShadow's route is OK but a couple of mistakes; 191 is west on Rawlins (not east); - Medicine hat is in Alberta?? Probably meant Mexican Hat (Utah). Then you are on your own to go on to Flagstaff etc.

well, the way to Dinosaur Nat'l park and Moab from Rawlins is I 80 east to 191 and south through Flaming Gorge and down to Vernal and the east to Dinosaur, but then come back to Vernal and take 191 south to I 70 and then east and down to Moab, and south to Medicine Hat and southwest to 89 and down to I 40 and over to Flagstaff.
But there is a pretty tough descent from flaming gorge to vernal...but we see big rigs doing it every time we use it (going up). If it is hot when you do it, do it easy and let your brakes cool off.

This is the route to take and with your RV/truck you shouldn't have any problems with the descent on 191 toward Vernal. Get into low gear BEFORE the descent not when you get going too fast on the way down. It's a popular route for RVers and we've done it a few times with our 40' motorhome towing the Jeep. Have a great trip.
