I would not attempt to bring the gun into CA. We crossed the border recently en route to Montreal, and the agent asked only about liquor (gave him a verbal tally) and firearms (none with us). We answered honestly. He then said, "Do you carry in Florida?" Definitely high on their radar screen, so be prepared with honest answers to whatever is asked.
