The USA mass shootings are interesting when displayed that way.

Mexico has had their share of shootings but not so displayed as the bodies are still buried. People don't know about these murders yet as
they kill theirs and bury them, sometimes. Or, hang them from overpasses and bridges. Heads, arms and legs often chopped off.

It would be interesting to see the Mexican murder reports researched and displayed that way.

We entered at Sonoyta/Lukeville, and took the toll road down. Easy trip, stopped at San Carlos, Los Mochis, Mazatlan, and Tepic. From there, Chapala is easy.

Do consider the toll road down, and if necessary, by yourself.

Perhaps I should clarify my post. OP seems concerned about travel in Mexico due to two very unfortunate murders. Murder happens everywhere. As well as many areas of the US.

So what is the difference? In Mexico the vast majority of murders are drug related and happen to those involved in the drug trade. Yes, there are most certainly other murders. And the drug gangs do kill military and police as well as some others. But mostly not civilians and almost never tourists. In the US you can be killed for sitting in a movie theater or teaching at an elementary school or going to church or working in an office building.

I am wondering if the fact that the US has more people than Mexico means it is OK to just randomly kill people in the US? Is that what the quote above implies?

After reading about the recent murders in Navolta I am hesitant to drive alone.

Every single news outlet wants to outdo all others in sensational and gory detail, gang related shootings are now so common in cities that they are statistics, just a number for government agencies to track.

Today safety is relative to your awareness of where you are and what you are doing.

I absolutely did not mean to imply that at all. Sorry for the misunderstanding, my fault.

Thinking out load, I'd like to see a similar mass killing report from the Mexican side and compare to the USA side already presented.
Then, taking in the population ratio of Mexico to USA we might see a
more accurate assessment of potential violence to travelers.

As an aside, I did notice that a number of people recommend that one should never drive at night in Mexico especially along rural roads.
