Moral of the story - check with ATT before you cross the border and see if you can get a similar deal.
You can add international dialing for a fee for just the timeframe you are gone. No roaming charges, just the flat fee. We did it when we were in Denmark and Iceland and it was far less expensive than paying the per call fees. No stressing over whether or not to call because of the cost.
