We are from NY state and having just travelled from NY to Utah (where we now are boondocking) I can say this. I expected the ride out to be traffic filled and lots of trucks to blow us around.
Here is what I found. Nowhere is the traffic like the northeast. Only Chicago at 8:30 pm was a little congested. The number of cars was far less than I expected driving out here. The truck drivers were courteous despit the numbers. Our class c (as opposed to our van/trailer) was way better in not being blown around.
You will find the following areas heavily trafficked: WASH DC (note the caps and avoid that except for wee hours of night 10 pm to 4 am is a great time to travel through it). NJ/CT route 95...not pleasant in way. Avoid summer but fall would be best. Assateguea Island is nice beach area.
