Traveling out East?

We were going to Maine and down the coast , but a friend of ours just emailed us and said they can't wait till they get home to the Midweast. They said the streets are like alleys, the traffic unbearable, you have to pay to get onto a beach or pay even if you want to take a look at the beach, tons of shops and lots of people and no parking, can't get to a restraunt, and it's way to hot to enjoy. WOW! Wondering what your experience is about this location. Maybe a bus trip would be better.
Thank you

X2! The same can be said when you hit peak season in a place like Yellowstone. Yup, streets are narrow (rememeber they are old cow paths with paving), a LOT of people live up here, and we have a very short season. "Midwest" says "Chicago" to me. Ever try to get through THAT city during rush hour? It's just the way it is.
  • If it were the same as your home state, there would be no reason to go there.

X2 on expecting to see much of the coast line from I95 or US17 at least down to the FLA State line.. Maybe it gets better in FLA along the coast line...

We had to pull into hotels along the way and hope they didn't mind us walking around in their beach front property... Sure didn't see many public beach access along the way.
