When I was in the Boy Scouts, they had a badge called the 100 Below badge. Since it never got to -100, you had to spend enough nights out until they added up to -100 or more. There were lots of night at better than -50, so I couldn't see wasting time. We spent one night out at -62 and one at -57. No tents or heaters, just some lean-tos that we had build that fall for our winter camping.
The main thing I learned was to not sit around the fire drinking hot chocolate. The first night I had to get out of that sleeping bag twice to take a leak. After than, during the winter, I never drink anything after lunch. On our second night out, I didn't have to get out of the sleeping bag once.
