I guess I could go for about two third of the price alone compare to a caravan but there seems to be a lot of different things to see in Mexico and trying to find the best places could be a challenge.
I would like to go down south of Puerto Valarta but as I see, the Michoacan region is to be avoided.
Yes right now Michoacan is not safe. That may change by next season. It also depends on where in Michoacan. A caravan there is likely safe enough and that is where the Butterfly Preserve is located as well. There are people who use caravans year after year becuase they enjoy teh group thing, but for most it is a way to get your feet wet RVing in Mexico if you have aprehensions or are not sure where it is OK to take your rig. You can read as many blogs as you like, but until you have done it once and gone through the paperwork, experienced Topes, crooked cops and all that, it is a bit nervous the first time. After that, most people invariably return solo. The US SW or Florida seems blase after doing mexico.
As Rich above mentions the left hand signal issue is a big one, also many people do not realize it is illegal to turn right on a red or the lateral road trap in Puerto Vallarta (that one has nailed me twice) and stuff like that, that comes only with experience.
