WE are from Oregon but have lived Ohio for many years after retiring. We have made the trip to the west coast numerous times using varius routes. We prefer to use I-80 but I-70 is just about the same and both have interesting things on the route. You could also go up to I-90 and go through the Dakotas on the way back and see the Black Hills. We did the southern route I-40/I-10 twice when going out in the winter and it does add a couple days but the scnery is very different. Being retired military wqe have lived near most of these routes and Early spring is a gamble on waether and summer you risk severe storms. Weather versus routes needs to be considered but we've never been delayed more than two days. The computer makes it fairly easy to do route planning and this forum is an great place to get specific info. Good Luck.
