Trip to Quebec - french translation things

Hubby and I are planning a trip to Quebec province and we would really like to attempt French...although since I have no French speaking training I will absolutely murder the pronunciation. What should I get to bring with me...an old fashioned phrase book or a pocket translater digital thing?

When we passed through there spring 2013, French would really have been very useful as many people do not speak English or it is minimal and besides that it is just courteous to do that.

OR, is there something that speaks out loud also?

There's nothing in particular from a translation material perspective. Much will depend upon where you are going in Quebec. Montreal being a very cosmopolitan city and generally there is no problem as a tourist. The Quebec City area actually is more bilingual than Montreal since the industry there is tourism and the international language is english.

Once you get outside the tourist areas, then you will undoubtedly find less english but again as tourists, you should not have any problems.
