Tupelo MS to Montgomery, AL options?

Looking at Tupelo then south on ALT 45 to meridan, MS then east on Hwy 20 then 80 in AL? Anyone know about this road. Other way would be out of Tupelo go east toward Birmingham then south on the in...

I was thinking of something more - interesting or scenic. Thanks for the info about the construction on I-80 by Cuba, AL. The scenic - was why I had discounted the Birmingham route. Though it cuts off about 60 miles according to Mapquest. Looks like we would be going directing through Birmingham on Hwy 65.
