With most of my relatives in Canada I make fairly regular crossings. When I came back to the US the other day the US officer asked what happened to my passport card. I said my wife washed my wallet with everything in it. He cleaned it up cleaner than I had been able to do and hand it back. I have never had a problem in my lifetime of crossing, on either side.
