Yes bring rain gear and a sweater. Believe it or not icebergs will affect the temps around them. I have seen beautiful summer day with cool temps because there's an iceberg in the bay. Also the North Atlantic is pretty cold. When out whale watching the breeze can be cool of the water.
June can sometimes be foggy, we call it "capelin weather". The small fish come in to shore to spawn. If you are here in June listen for the locals to say "the capelin are rolling." It means the small fish are on shore spawning. It is quite the spectacle to see.
Other things to take note of are; The Rooms in St John's, Cabot Tower on Signal Hill in St John's, Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America, Woody Island Resort for a weekend, and each town has its own festival. Check out the NL tourism website, or each town's website for specific details and dates. One I like is Lewisporte Mussel Bed Soiree- usually the long weekend in August.
In 2014 when my parents came from out west they were here for a month. Only about 3 days were spent at my S&B. The rest was spent touring the island. Leave lots of time. On a map our island looks small, but its not.
