Your plan for making it in 10 days and only spending 7 days in Alaska tells me you'll be doing most of your vacation sitting in the vehicle traveling. It could easily take you 3 days to make it from the Alaska/Canadian border down to Homer depending on the route you choose. And if you run into a couple of days of bad weather you'll end up missing seeing some of the spectacular scenery. Denali/Mt. McKinley for instance is only clearly visible about 30% of the time. If there's any weather or low clouds on the Kenai you'll miss a lot of the mountain views there as well. Side trips to places like Hope, Seward, Valdez, Haines or Skagway would be pretty much out of the question because of the limited time and that would be a shame given how far you came. I seriously doubt you'll have any spare time to do any other sightseeing, fishing, wildlife viewing, gold panning, etc.
