The ferry that goes from Bellingham to Skagway takes about 3 days which would save you a little time. I would get off at Haines, however, as the ferry stops there before Skagway and it puts you farther along the Alaksa Highway, west of Whitehorse instead of east. The ferry can be expensive depending on the size of your rig and you should make reservations.
The ferry though the Inside Passage is a nice experience as we have gone from Prince Rupert to Haines on the ferry.
I guess my biggest concern is that the trip to Alaska is such a wonderful adventure it is sad to rush it. That is why I suggested flying and spending the whole time in Alaska rather than spending it driving across the country.
The ferry is quite expensive. I'm gonna put that on the back burner for now.
I appreciate your concerns as they are mine as well. I am trying to console myself with the hope that we will return to Alaska and Canada a few more times. Hopefully, seeing a bit more and learning a great deal more each time.
We did a 21 state, 30 day, 7000 mile trip with our TT a couple years ago. We were able to work in quite a few nice excursions (Puebloan ruins, vegas, grand canyon, san diego, yosimite, rushmore, etc.) along the way and even made time to have the truck in the shop for 5 of those days. I am hoping we can make the most of the little time we have for Alaska.
