Wow, you guys must all be retired. I am not. We left PA in a 40ft DP flat towing a car. I made it past Chicago the first nite. Got to Wall Drug the next nite. Got up in am and went to Badlands , wall drug store. Went to Rapid City that night. Next day did Mt Rushmoore etc. In morn Left and went to Great Falls MT next day. Saw falls etc next day. Went int GNP next day, stayed 3 days 2 nights. On the 9th nite we were in Baniff. Loved it. 10th nite we were in Dawson creek. 4 days later in Alaska. We did not feel rushed at all. I think we spent 8 or 9 days in Alaska and then 10 days home. Me, wife and 2 kids.
I say go for it…..you will have a ball. You will stop to see bears on the A highway, but I saw 10 in one day, didnt even slow down for the last 5. I think the highest sopt on the A highway is about 3k feet , not bad at all. buy the Milepost. There are not that many roads in Alaska. Basically a triangle and then down to Homer.
