fanrgs: I think we are on the same page. We understand that we will be skipping much more than we will be seeing. My children are ages 11, 13, 15, and 16. They hunt, fish, spearfish, mountain bike, hike, horseback ride, ski, surf, etc. Although they are "outdoorsy," they love their electronic junk too. We limit access to it at home and plan to do so on our trip as well. On our longer trips we listen to books and take breaks for games and points of interest along the way. Electronics will be a last resort to quell boredom.
Each child gets to plan at least one family excursion to be folded into the overall trip plan. With regard to the fishing, I'd rather catch a salmon. However, I prefer halibut on my dinner plate. My youngest son has already begun planning a salmon fishing excursion.
Thanks for the recommendations.
2gypsies: I agree. When I mentioned that, I was thinking more of the contrast between the C class and being strapped down in our Excursion, only being able to move when stopped. We've rented a C before and sort of know the ropes. It really doesn't take much to throw someone off balance.
