Agreed, but most towns in Alaska really are very small. Outside Anchorage and its suburbs--Eagle River, Palmer, Wasilla, etc.--you can easily walk nearly everywhere you want to go. For example, if you stay in the shoreline campground owned by the City of Seward, you can walk to all its stores and attractions--aquarium, Kenai Fjords boat tours, grocery store, restaurants, laundromat, etc. If you stay in one of the RV parks in the downtown area of Valdez, the same thing applies. In Denali, you can walk from either campground to the bus center or bus stop to catch the park bus tours.
In addition, nearly every town has some place in the central area--tourist info center, Fred Meyer grocery store parking lot, wide side street with on-street parking--where you can park an RV and go shopping. Most of Alaska along the major highways is pretty RV friendly.
