US 191 Flaming Gorge area

Considering this route northbound from Vernal to Rock Springs, but Mt Directory West makes it sound pretty scary in spots. We'd be pulling our TT (rig described in sig). Anyone have experience with this route who could help us with our decision? TIA!
  • Steep climb with several tight hairpin turns about 20 miles or so north of Vernal

Only a few miles of those then fairly easy drive

    Your Toyota...........:H

Been on a lot worse... in fact it does not even rate as bad.
  • It's a pretty good climb for about 4-5 miles after you leave Vernal, but just take your time and you shouldn't have any problems; traffic is pretty light and the road is in fine condition. You will really like the Flaming Gorge area, make sure you go out to the overlook, an impressive view.
  • I've been down it several times and never noticed any problem. I'm not very sensitive to turns and steep drops tho.
