Weather in that area during May is of the "wait a minute, it will change" variety. We were in WY and SD near the end of May this year. We had rain, wind, sun, clouds, and one night with six inches of snow when we were camped near Deadwood. Just a few miles away, there was no snow at all.
Just bring along clothes that you can layer and remove, and have a good time.
