US 60

Anybody travel US 60 recently? Looking to meander west from around Louisville. Tidbits about stops, sites, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks!
  • In MO it's 4 lane from Charleston to just SW of Springfield.
  • Pie Town, NM now has one restaurant open. A fairly newish one - The Gatherin' Place. Was just able to reopen a week or so ago, and doing a very brisk business yesterday (7/3).

    Older more established restaurants are permanently closed. :-{

    US-60 near Continental Divide in NM.
  • In 2014 we drove RT 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA. On the way home, we went to the original western terminus of US 60 in Los Angeles and then followed US 60 to our home in Lexington, KY. Several months later we got back on US 60 and drove it to its eastern end in Virginia Beach, VA. We did the whole trip in a '55 Chevy station wagon. It's a great road.
  • We are traveling US-60 right now - across New Mexico east to west. Some parts are great, some are middlin. None are bad, and very little traffic.
  • Thank you for the information. Don't know how far we'll get as we take it a day at a time. We do enjoy the meander!
  • Going through NM look at Penny's Dinner Vaughn, NM, the VLA (very large array)near Socorro and Pie town (small CG in Pie town with 4 ? sites, cool nights as it's in the mountains.
  • How far West are you planning to go. We have traveled US-60 from Wickenburg, AZ through NM and into Texas. Lots of small towns and wide open spaces. It goes through the White Mountains in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and the Cibola National Forest. A lot of two lane, usually in good condition when we were last there a couple of years ago.

    We have also been on portions in the Daniel Boone National Forest in KY near Salt Lick and Cave Run Lake.
  • Ok road, if you are aren’t in a hurry, have traveled the road to Owensboro
