US 95 or AZ 95

We are currently in the Tucson area and need to head up to Needles. Wondering if anyone an give me some thoughts about which is the better route from I-10 north. US 95 on the California side of the Colorado River or Arizona 84 won the Arizona side of the Colorado River?
Thanks
Carl
  • Thank you all for your responses. Think I will hop over to the California side and take US 95 north after our night in Ehrenberg. We plan to spend the night at Arizona Oasis RV Resort and the head north the next day.
Reference the comment about I-8 to Gila Bend and then north on 85 to I-10. That is the way we always go. Don't want to get mixed up in the Phoenix traffic. It is bad enough is a car much less in a motor home.
Anyone have any suggestions for RV Parks in the Barstow area? We plan to spend the night there for our second night north.
    Thanks
    Carl
  • Which ever route you choose watch out for folks passing vehicles in either direction. I've seen some nasty head-on collisions on these routes.

Then I would not backtrack. US 95 North out of Blythe is a good road.

"Same here I cut off of I-10 at the 45 exit (Big Flag Truck Stop) to Vicksburg and then use AZ 72 to AZ 95 to Parker. I also go over to Gila Bend on I-8 and cut north from there to I-10 to avoid Phoenix. "

I agree with both posts. We drive this route often and thoroughly enjoy 95.

Driving north of Parker on 95 on the Arizona side can be a pain especially during times of higher traffic flow {never try it on weekends and holidays}. Better to get over to the California side.

Taking 72 is a nice shortcut if you are east of Quartzsite.

Keep in mind that none of these routes have much shoulder available. While cell coverage overall is good its no place you want to break down.

My preferred route is AZ95 North to Parker then crossing into CA and catching CA62 to US 95.
