Use Caution in Mississippi

Bus Stuck On Tracks

Some of the grade crossings between I-10 and the Mississippi gulf coast area are raised above the approaching roads. A few years ago and travel trailer got hung up and hit by a train. This particular crossing has had 2 wrecks just recently.

We went to Buccaneer SP in Waveland, MS last winter. Following the directions to the campground took us to one of these grade crossings. We turned around and found one that was less steep. While we were staying there, the locals told us that there was a flat crossing up by the casino which we took on the way out.

The issue is the railroad bridge over Bay St. Louis. The closer you are to the bay, the higher up the tracks are.
  • As soon as driver realized bus was NOT moving all exit doors (front/back) should have been opened and passengers direct to RUN

I know IF I had been a passenger I would have gotten off......

Trains do NOT 'veer' and rarely get stopped in time.
