USRoute 20 vs I-90 New York.

Taking the travel trailer to Gloucester Mass from Columbus Oh. Going to take northern route which includes I-90 most of the way in New York. Thinking about maybe taking US Route 20 instead to bypass the tolls and for a more scenic view. Anybody ever take US 20 up there? Wondering if there is just too many slow downs with all the small towns along the way. Appreciate any input. Thanks

Is there a reason you do not want to take 90 to 86 and a Binghamton take 88 to Albany. They have done some nice work finally on 86 small portion of 86 still not controlled access but 4 lane most of the way.

20 is nice but is slow at times but depending on time of year could be fun with all the roadside farm stands.
20A is to be avoided as a very low clearance on 20A west of Interstate 390.

No major reason. Just thought it would be nice to skip the tolls, and catch some better scenery. But 90 to 86 sounds good. Will look into it. Thanks

+1 for the I-86 route. Most of it is good road now. It cost me $20 for the NYS Thruway toll from Rochester to the Mass Pike a few weeks back, I can't imagine the toll from Ripley.

Was that just for 2 axles? I drove the motorhome and toad (4 axles) from Buffalo to the Mass line several years ago and it was nearly $50.

Dave I checked online. From Buffalo to Mass line is now $69 for 4 axles.

20 is a decent scenic route, but MANY small towns, stop light/signs, and low speed limits.
