I don't think you will find anything till Fulton MS, Whitten Park a COE. Also several options in and around Tupelo MS.
If I were doing Valdosta to Birmingham I would take US-84 thru Dothan, or US-82 from Tifton to Montgomery. Then up to B'ham.
