Vancouver to Whitehorse in 4 days

I got home to Whitehorse at midnight Monday, and am now posting about the trip on my blog each day, with about 20 photos in each. I came up via the Duffey Lake Road (through Whistler) rather than the "normal" ways, and then via the Stewart-Cassiar. My aim was to focus on some things that most visitors don't see, or expand on those they do see. There will actually be 5 posts, as I'm doing a separate one for my 2 half-days exploring Stewart and Hyder. The series starts here. Two are posted so far, 3 more to come - Smithers-Stewart tomorrow, then Stewart, then a fairly brief Stewart-Whitehorse one (because the weather sucked for most of that leg) .

  • Murray, I don't have the 2014 Milepost but the 2013 Milepost indicates Bear Glacier is 24.5 km from Meziadin and 40.5 km from the U.S.-Canada Border.

It also indicates the total distance from the junction to the border is 65 km.
  • Thanks, Joe - I'm just writing the final one on the Stewart-Whitehorse leg, and it'll be posted in a couple of hours.

My wife loves (!) Stewart, and my next trip down will be with her, and hopefully this summer.

A question for anyone who has a new copy of The Milepost. My 2010 edition has the Highway 37A mileages running from Meziadin Junction to Stewart, whereas the actual highway km posts run from Stewart to Meziadin. Is the new edition still backwards? For example, the Bear Glacier is right at Km 40, but The Milepost (2010) says it's Km 24.2.
  • Anyone that hasn't been on Murray's site (clicky in his original post at top) since the original one was posted, there are now several more. Well worth a look, especially the ones for Stewart and Hyder. While I have been to both, two or three times, I can see I need to go back and walk the streets more thoroughly, as lots I missed seeing.
  • Great pics of the Duffey Lake road section. I will be up that way in 2 weeks to Lillooet (Seton Lake campsite) for the May long weekend.
  • The last time we drove through Lilooet it was 34C or 93F. We then camped in the mountains that night and had 6 inches of snow. Built myself a snowman in July wearing shorts and flip flops, LOL

No, I understand governors to prevent overspeeds - I can't figure this system out. It's a gas engine, and it's called a "Tramline Fuel Saver".
