How about all the electric vehicles that don't pay any fuel tax, yet use the roads just like the rest of us? True, for now the EV's are just automobiles, but consider that they will get bigger and you'll start seeing electric powered big trucks and MH's? Out here in WA, too much of the gas tax (which is about the highest of any state) goes to mass transit and doesn't get spent on roads.
Don't worry, just not enough EV's on the roads yet. Once the fuel tax revenues start to fall off by having enough EV's on the road, you can expect to be reporting your mileage on your state tax forms, and digging into your pocket. The issue will be they'll also keep the fuel taxes in place. So if you drive an ICE vehicle you'll pay both at the pump and at the end of the year, and if you drive an EV you'll pay both at the end of the year and again monthly to the tax column on the electric bill. Wait until you see what happens to electric rates and taxes on them over the next 10 years, bend over and grab em folks because they're coming in dry.
Some people are geniuses regarding this. A friend who is a huge EV proponent, who has never owned one BTW, truly believes when he does buy one he's going to be charging it up free LOL. He's a dumbass and I have had to get up and find another bar stool at times when he starts his spew.
