WA SR 410 westbound

We are in Yakima, WA and would like to take SR 410 (Chinook Pass) westbound to Auburn, WA. Is the road suitable for a 40' DP and toad ? Thanks

  • Beautiful scenery but you will probably regret it. So will the travelers behind you as turnouts are almost non existent!

Lowest clearance I recall is the previous pic covered in snow. I recall it's just above 14ft. Another structure near Crystal mtn ski resort, also 14ft +. When you pass through Green water and the speed limit increases stay 5mph under the limit. There are a few dips in the road. Nothing major. Unless you are running a cell booster expect some cell dead zones. I see motorhomes along here often.

  • There is a pedestrian bridge over the highway at the summit

I don't see (on streetview) any clearance warning signs. But there's a large reststop and view point 0.2mile before this. Stop, taking the views, and hike up to the bridge for more views. I'd suggest driving this pass in the morning (or early afternoon) to have the sun for views. With the right sun, some of the best views of Mt Rainier can be had from this pass.

This is a streetview of the tightest curve (on the west side of the pass) (150' radius - same as a freeway cloverleaf). There is only one set of switchbacks, and the curvatures are not exceptional.

  • Thanks, the cliff and grade I'm okay with, I had heard the switchbacks where too tight for a 40' MH with toad. Kind of hard to find real driving experience info on the road from RV'rs.
  • How comfortable are you with Mountain driving?. By that I mean you are driving along a cliff (mostly on the high side) with a huge drop into the valley.

If you are comfortable, no reason you shouldn't. It's a very scenic drive.
