Weather has been a big factor in this set of fires on the eastern side of the Washington Cascades.

The weather has been hot and dry, in the upper 80s around Seattle, closer to 100 in the interior. Midweek some mostly dry thunderstorms passed through, starting a number of small fires. But then winds picked up, due to higher pressure along the coasts (with cooling in Seattle). It's those winds that fanned the small fires into these large ones.
