Wagon Masters

Posted with moderator permission:

The caravan company I am doing customer orientations for is looking for more Wagon Masters. They have been picked to operate Airstream Club caravans in Mexico and are looking for more leaders. I think they need a Wagon Master for a 30 day Copper Canyon trip next January 22 with an optional add on, and also one of the Airstream trips of 60 days. Anyway, they are going to run a 25 day training trip (free) on Nov 1st out of Nogales, which will go as far as Oaxaca. It will teach routes, RV park locations and procedures. RV park fees will be covered. Preference is given to people who have 1 or more of the following:

1) Previous RVing in Mexico experience
2) Previous Wagon Master experience
3) Basic Spanish skills

You have to be sociable of course. It is best if you have a small to medium size rigs. Trips are 30-90 days. The 90 day one requires a smaller rig. If it interests you, send me a PM and I will discuss it with you. This is not a job to make money, they are looking for people who love Mexico, and basically want their expenses covered, plus a bit more. Wagon Masters also get to go on tours. They also run some French tours, so if you are fluent in French that is another option. So far they only do the mainland, but Baja is probably in the near future for Airstream Caravans.

This company gives a lot of leeway to Wagon Masters to improvise
  • When you get as sick, old & stupid as I am, it is. LOL

Seriously though, this is a good way to get your season covered. I did it for about 7 years, but after my RV accident, I am a bit nervous so I am minimizing my travel these days. One nice thing about this outfit is they give a lot of free reign to Wagon Masters. Kevin & Ruth, if you know them, took people up to Mescal ranches in the hills and stuff like that on their own accord. I took people to remote archaelogical sites no one usually goes into. Since this company arranged tours for outfits like Adventure & Fantasy, it was easy to compare how much latitude was afforded wagon masters. However, you can end up with a participant who turns out to be a pain in the you know what. People are people.
  • I keep getting the invitations Paul ,but apart from possibly visiting some areas that we have not yet visited it has not much attraction to Us!
  • You probably gotit via the newsletter. Actually that has truned upo a couple of prospects
  • Please contact Adventuretrek.com they are still running caravans to Mexico and South America
  • What do you consider a Medium Size rig? And does it have to be an Airstream?

    rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
  • Yes, and it does not have to be an airstream. Medium up to about a 27 ft trailer, 35 ft 5th or 36 ft class A. You are familiar with mexican roads, so you can probably judge
