Want to avoid DFW heading W how about 380 from I 30?

Last year we traveled I30 through DFW on a Sunday and almost got in an accident. Will be traveling from MI to AZ the beginning of Jan. and am looking at other options. Would you recommend taking Hwy 3...

You will want to keep up on the weather forecast even for the more southerly route in January. We are currently in the worst ice storm in recent years. Some highways closed for periods of time, trees down, power off, accidents galour.
