Question

U.S. 2 is closed for an indefinite time at M.P. 57, just east of the town of Skykomish.

There are no detours. Recent heavy rains have washed out the foundation of highway bridge.

This highway links Everett with Leavenworth and Wenatchee.

Such a washout will affect access to Stevens Ski area more than Leavenworth.  Blewett Pass, US97 is a good alternative, especially if you live close to I90.

Thanks Pauli.  The Stevens Pass ski area is accessible from the east side via 2.I don't think they've opened yet for skiing. The highway is closed from the summit west to Skykomish.

WSDOT is hoping to restore controlled one lane traffic over the bridge by Thanksgiving. The link includes a couple of pictures. The WSDOT flickr portfolio has more. You can see the difference between the high water that eroded the embankment and now.

Both lanes are open with a night time closure for 9 PM Tuesday to 5 AM Wednesday.
