Chris et al: This is not fiction. Read other forums and you will see it happens all the time. I am very careful around the pumps and it has only happened to me twice. Once I turned away and the attendant reset the pump. He claimed it quit working. But he gave me the pump reading and that amount was impossible. I just paid him what the pump said. The other time he tried the bill switcheroo. I protested and he called over his Boss. He insisted that I had to pay or he would call the cops. I simply got in my truck and drove off! BTW: One should never ask for a fill up. The pump can be modified to give false readings from a laptop in the office. One should ask for a specific amount of litres and have the attendant set the pump. That way they cannot change the reading.
