If you think you want to do Hwy 1 between San Luis Obispo and Monterey keep an eye on the weather and road closures on that stretch of road. The California Highway Patrol has an app that has the option of favorite places. You can input dispatch areas along your route or just set it for "near you". If you get stuck on Hwy 1 by a slide it may be a while before you can get out.
Early October has historically been clear and nice more than foggy and bad weather. After about mid month the odds change to more fog and rain and IF the El Nino shows up there's the possibility of lots of rain.
