West Coast Travel - 5th Wheel

We're heading out west at the end of Sept and looking for info about conditions out there. Are we safe planning a trip through the N.W. this time of year?

We have a '12 Tundra w/2016 31ft Rockwood Ultra-Lite (9,100 GVW/1,100 king-pin) and this is first long pull through mountains, all feedback is welcome!!!

  • Thanks everyone, and yes a boneheaded question without more details!

Anyway, we plan on traveling from Buffalo, NY to the following; Yellowstone, Glacier, Portland, to Astoria then following the Coast south, then East toward Salt Lake City, then through major National Parks in AZ, NM, ending up in Florida for the winter...

What/where are you asking about? "Out West" for a New Yorker can mean Ohio??

It is pretty hard to answer these kinds of questions!!

Not if you read it correctly.

Title clearly states 'West Coast' and OP mentions the N.W. in his post.
  • Give us your planned route once you hit California or Oregon. If you're planning on driving Highway 101 all up the coast, you'll have no issues. However, it's not recommended you drive Highway 1. They're completely different.

Regardless, the roads you take to even get to Hwy 101 could make a difference for you. What is your route?

If you're first leaving the end of September you could also be entering the rainy season for the coast but then again, you know how the weather can change and you could have gorgeous weather. Bring a raincoat - in case! :)

  • What part? Your asking about a vast expanse or area with vastly different ecosystems and weather. Coast can be wet and warm. Valley can be dry and sunny. Eadt of the Cascades can vary from 25 to 85 degrees. You really need to get a bit more specific.
  • Don't know what you mean by, "safe."...but
Sept and Oct. are great months to visit Oregon and Washington.
There are some fires but they are on the east side of the Cascades.

    Head for the coast.
    Have a great trip
