West to East through Memphis

Need advice on traveling west to east through or around Memphis pulling a 38 ft fifth wheel. Hate driving through the big cities.........
  • Help if we know where from where to and day of the week
  • If your on I 40 just stay on it and time it after 9 am and before 4 pm. I 40 exits off on the east side of Memphis where I 40 meets I 240 so you will need to be in the left lane to make the exit then move over left some more after going around the big curve on the exit and merging in. You will merg into about 4 or 5 lanes....get left.
  • Lots of construction on I40 in Memphis, watch your signs and take it easy. Lots of people live east of the city so traffic will be heavy in the evenings traveling home. I drive it daily, pm me if I can help.
  • We want to get to northeast Mississippi from Little Rock, AR. Maybe we should take I40 to I55 south to 302 in Mississippi. I wasn't sure which river bridge was easiest. Also thought about crossing down at Helena, AR.
  • Davion, Where are you going in NE MS? I may can assist with the best route as we camp a lot in North MS.
  • Thank you. We want to visit friends on Bay Springs Lake at Pine Grove campground east of Booneville, MS. We will be leaving Scott, AR. We try to stay off of the interstate highways, but when crossing the river thought it might be best with a large unit.
  • First I don't recommend taking the old bridge across the river in Memphis, narrower bridge, and roads are in poor condition. Take the new bridge on I40 to I240 South. From here you have 2 options both are about equal in my book. However, both of these options will have heavy traffic from 4pm until 7pm from people going home in the evenings.

    Option A: (Quickest Route)
On 240S (stay in left lane) to 240E then exit onto 385 (2 right lanes exit) which will take you to 72 which goes almost all the way to bay springs.

    Option B:
On 240S stay straight as this turns into 55 south. Take 302/Goodman Rd exit and go east to highway 72.

We live about a mile off 302 and take this route over to Pickwick lake on a regular basis. If have any further questions just let me know.
