west yellowstone to grand tetons colter park?

Was wondering the best route (or if its the only route) driving from west Yellowstone (grizzly park) to colter park in grand tetons?? Where is this Teton pass everyone mentions not to take? Will be there end of august
  • Go through Yellowstone and out the south entrance. Will be heading right towards Colter Bay.
  • Definitely through YNP from West Yellowstone to Colter Bay.

Teton Pass (rte 22) goes between the town of Jackson, near the south end, to the Teton Valley in Idaho, on the "back side" of the Teton range. It comes out in/near the little Idaho town of Victor. If you are heading south & west after you leave Colter Bay, use US 26 from Jackson to Idaho Falls as an alternate to 22. It's plenty scenic and a much easier drive.
  • X4 on drive through Yellowstone.

When you get to Jackson Lake, stop for pictures at the second pull out on the right. It's a long pull out and easier for RV's than the first one. Great view down the Teton Range across the lake.

This; and another is the entrance fee covers both parks within the 7 day limit or show ID and a NP pass if you have one, if not and you are 62 or older get the senior pass good for all NP for life.
  • As others have already said, thru YNP out the south gate and keep your eye out for
moose and other wildlife. Afew years back we did the same drive (again, lol ) and saw moose, a Grizzly and a lone Wolf. Be sure to go to the million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole.
  • I second the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. They have good food and many of the bar stools are saddles.
