Westward through St. Louis

When I was living in Tennessee up until last year I was taking the Stan Musial Bridge route using exit 3B from I-64 right onto I-70 to St Peters. Seems to flow better for me than the other route using 55.

Going the other way, 270 to 255 was the preferred route. I think the GPS was set for fastest route, and I was in Eureka of I-44.

I-70 is reported to be rather boring. US50 parallels and is a bit more interesting.

Neither of those choices is really good.

I MUCH prefer taking I-255 north to I-270, thus bypassing downtown completely.

Yes it is farther but should be much less stressful.

Before the new I-70 bridge was finished the best route was I-64 through St. Louis to I-70 at Wentzville. Now the best route is not to cross the Poplar Street bridge but instead just stay on I-70 all the way.

This is the way to go.

Thanks everybody! So I'll probably just get directly onto I-70 as suggested by some.

In addition to going real close to "downtown", I-70 goes right past the airport too so it can be REAL busy at times.

270 can too but there are a LOT more places to stop if needed for gas, food , etc.

It's a gamble. If everything is flowing good, you probably save 45 minutes by connecting with 70 at the river. Other days, that route might COST you more than that 45 minutes.

What Sam Spade said !! I 64 I 255 I 270 to I70 ... A lot less traffic.

brooks379...You seem pretty enthusiastic about that route :) So I looked it up on Google maps and it's only 10 miles difference! That's easy! Okay, so now I'll probably do that route. In reality, I'll likely decide between it and the straight onto I-70 route when we get there.

Busskipper...I imagine that's a lovely drive. However, we are planning to visit friends who live along I-70 about 100 miles west of St. Louis. But I'll keep it in mind in case our plans change.
