OH THEY show up! Most everything shows up. Misdemeanors just don't usually make a person inadmissible for entry into Canada.
Your answers about the misdemeanor, especially if the Officer detects any deception in your answer, could key the Officer on the fact that you are attempting to hide the truth. That deception could lead to refusing entry into Canada.
Telling the truth about any criminal activity is the best policy. The Officer usually knows the answer to a question before they ask. Your truthful answer to that question is part of the decision process the Officer uses to allow you entry into their country.
