I am planning to go North to Canada this summer. I would enter in British Columbia and exit in Alberta. The rest of the trip, will be in the USA. I plan on continuing on to the East coast, then return the southern route.
What I want to know is what to do with my firearm? I know it is not legal to enter into Canada with a handgun. I plan on staying in Canada about a week to maybe two weeks. The total trip will be about three months.
Do I mail it myself, a gun store, or? What have others done in the past?
What kind of firearm? You allude to a handgun. Long gun or handgun?
Do you want to have it with you when in Alaska?
Check firearms laws in every State in which you will be traveling.
http://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-laws.aspxFFL firearms transfers will be the safest route. You can mail or ship a firearm to an FFL, but an FFL will have to send it to another FFL for you to pick up. Hence, you could send it to Tok and pick it up there, then drop it off at Tok to have shipped to an FFL in the lower 48 and pick it up there. Usually $25 per transfer. Then take care in individual States that you are transporting and possessing a firearm legally.
